In the Beginning

Featured
As the first blog post of the church, maybe it would be apropos to address the raison d'être of the simulation itself. After all, a digital theology concerned with the purpose of spirituality within a simulation should, at the very least, consider the origin of our programmed universe.
The, 'Why Are We Here' ultimate question to explain the purpose of It All.

Short answer: we don't know.

It would seem the only way to be fairly certain would be through direct communication with someone on the outside of the simulation and even then you would have to take their word by faith. Is it one of the system's coders you're talking to, or a project leader with more information that can see the whole story beyond the rudimentary coding level? Besides, if history has been clear on one thing, it's that the gods are often silent. Although most of history was pre-technological age, we find ourselves in the genesis of a vast technological time wherein we may be able to use our advancements to actually communicate with our makers. After all, in less than 150 years we've advanced from the invention of the light-bulb to the creation of quantum computers. The means to communicate with those outside the simulation may already be among us.

Regarding the purpose of the simulation in general, it has often been cited as an ancestor simulation, or possibly for entertainment, neither of which can be proven nor falsified. We could likewise assume that the creation of a simulation as complex as our universe would require far more power and resources than are possible, but again, we are merely guessing based on our limitations and conception of technology and resources.

In truth, we have no knowledge or understanding of the universe outside of our simulation. Even on a basic level such as the species who programmed it, we can only assume them to be human. Are they one hundred years into what we would call the future? A thousand, or ten thousand? We have absolutely no idea what their technological status or limitations are, and to make set-in-stone assumptions only limits the possibility and likelihood of our understanding any of it.

Perhaps there are clues or truths to be found in the sacred texts of our species, that when viewed through the lens of Simulation Theory, may fill in some of the blanks.

Here in the beginning it is important that we do not hinder or limit ourselves with assumptions, bias, or opinion. We need discussion by open minds to find patterns, make hypotheses, and construct repeatable tests. Together, we may be able to get closer to the truth than we can as individuals - and there may be mathematical proof to support that idea, which we will discuss in our next blog post.

Thank you for considering this first sound that we emit into the digital aether. We hope that like a similarly attuned tuning fork, our ideas will resonate with you and we can join together to delve into our mysterious situation. Please do not hesitate to contact us with your thoughts and comments.
